Welcome Message from Club Captain Tom Shinkins.
It’s a great privilege for me to represent Toft Golf Club as the Club Captain in 2022.
For those that don’t know me I was very fortunate to be introduced to golf at a young age; I joined Toft as a 14 yr old and was quickly thrown in the junior section under the watchful eye of Mary Stark. We were fortunate to have regular coaching with a chap called Mark… looks the chap we see in the pro shop now but with more hair…
Playing on Saturday and Sunday mornings with my dad and some legends of the club certainly set me off with a solid base.
I left school at 16 and went to work at Peterborough Milton Gc as a greenkeeper. I worked there for 6 years gaining NVQs in sports turf management. During that time Dad unbelievably thought as I was earning money I could pay my own membership, but I could play at work for free so took a small hiatus from Toft, playing socially and in greenkeeper events for a number of years.
Rejoining Toft in 2017, I quickly threw myself in to playing as much golf as possible. In 2018 I was voted on to the MPC and here we are today.
I’m very lucky in my current job, that I get to travel far and wide trying to sell specialist machinery into golf clubs, and anywhere else where there might be sports turf. I see this as a great asset, as I’m talking to clubs, sharing ideas, seeing what others are doing and more importantly, occasionally get an invite to get the clubs out of the car.
At Toft we are fortunate to have one of the best courses in the county. The undulations and varying Lincolnshire weather conditions here provides members with a constantly changing, challenging and thoroughly enjoyable course throughout all seasons.
Mark and the team in our Club Shop are extremely helpful, should you need assistance with equipment, tee bookings, competition schedules, lessons or general golf questions.
Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding our club, course or any other related matters.
Welcome message from Club Lady Captain Mandy Lees.
I am honoured to be representing Toft Golf Club as Lady Captain for the 2021/22 season.
I have been involved with the golf club since its inception and opening in 1988 but didn’t start playing until several years later, not being able to commit fully until I retired. This will be my second time as Lady Captain, the first being in 2009, and I am looking forward to welcoming new ladies to our section and playing alongside ladies old and new.
Our main ladies’ days are Tuesdays and Thursdays but we hold many competitions over the weekends also, giving all of our ladies plenty of opportunities to play. Our section is extremely welcoming and friendly and encourage ladies of all abilities to play in fun competitions, mixed matches home and away, as well as the more serious trophy competitions.
We have a very successful league team, champions of the L.W.G.A league for an unprecedented four years in a row, an achievement we are extremely proud of and we also enter a team into the national Annodata competition every year. I would like to wish all our teams a successful year.
We are an all inclusive club with ladies being represented on the Main Playing Committee as well as having a knowledgeable, approachable ladies committee working hard to make our golfing experience enjoyable for all and I would like to thank them for their continuing support. My Vice Captain is Mary Stark and I look forward to working with her, our Club Captain Tom Shinkins and Seniors Captain John Tummon during the season.
I would like to express my gratitude to our Course Manager James Dair and his team for continually producing a course we can all have pride in. I think we must have the lowest handicap green keeping team in the area!
Our Club Professional, Mark Jackson, who also happens to be my partner, and Ollie, our Operations manager, are always welcoming and are there with positivity and encouragement to answer any questions we may have.
Our chosen charity this year is once again Don’t Lose Hope, local to most of us and deals with mental health for all ages, an invaluable service to many during these uncertain times.
Keep safe everyone and have an enjoyable golfing year.
Welcome message from Club Seniors Captain John Tummon.
I am Oliver John Tummon, the seniors captain for 2022, and welcome you, if you are joining the seniors. I am mainly known as John, just to confuse everyone.
I have been playing golf since I was a student, but playing more seriously from around 1989, and I then joined Royal Ascot. After taking voluntary redundancy, I moved to Haconby and joined Toft in 2007.
The seniors play mainly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using the BRS system for bookings, if you want to play, check the system for a vacant slot and then contact the lead name, and ask if it is OK to join them. All the seniors will be more than happy for you to play with them.
We also play friendly club matches home and away with local golf clubs around Toft. Costs are for a meal after and at away matches no green fee is required. All levels of handicap are able to participate in these matches. Entry sheets will go up on the senior’s notice board in the locker room.
We also have medals, stablefords as well some fun competitions during the year, and again all entry sheets are put on the senior’s board.
If you have questions please ask Mark Jackson, the professional or Ollie in the shop, or feel free to contact me, or any of the senior’s committee for answers.
Please look at the web site as there are details of fixtures in the senior’s section and members contact details in the members directory.
We, as a club, support a local charity Don’t Lose Hope, which deals with mental health issues.
Hoping you enjoy playing at Toft, and play well.
